FAQ's

Which Role is Best for Me?

Each role description is available on the website and has been sent to your student email account.  It’s a good idea to read through it and see if you think it would be a good fit for you.

If you would like more information about joining the SU and the roles in question, you can also contact any of the current SU officers via the Vice Presidents Alexandra.godfrey@rausu.co.uk or Harvey.webb@rausu.co.uk

How do I Nominate Myself for a Role?

In order to nominate yourself for election and vote in the election you will need to register an account.

If you have any difficulty in registering your account, you may submit your nomination by email to the Deputy Returning Officer melanie.kayani@rausu.co.uk

Once you have registered your account you may nominate yourself for more than one role.  The nominations period closes at 5pm on Sunday 10 March.

Do I need to write a Manifesto?

All candidates are required to submit a written manifesto, relevant to the role they have chosen.  Nominations without a completed manifesto will be declined.  Manifestos which contravene the election rules will also be declined.

Your manifesto should include at least 5 key points that you are committed to delivering if elected.  These points should be relevant to the role in question.

Support in completing a manifesto is available by contacting melanie.kayani@rausu.co.uk or alexandra.godfrey@rausu.co.uk or any of the elected SU Officers

When can I Start Campaigning?

After your nomination is accepted, you should start to prepare your campaign.  Campaign week begins at 9am on Monday 11 March and ends at 9pm on Thursday 14 March.  You may only campaign during this period.  Please see the election rules (attached) for further information.

Where can I see Candidates’ Manifestos?

You can view the candidates and their manifestos here: https://rausu.unioncloud.org/meet-your-candidates  You can also join the “Facebook group RAU Student Community 23/24” or follow @rausu_ on Instagram to view candidate campaigns.

What is Question Time?

During Campaign Week all candidates will be invited to deliver your manifesto in a “Question Time” scenario, and will receive and answer questions from the student body.  This will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 13 March in the Tithe Barn.

All students are welcome to attend the question time.  If you have questions for the candidates, please submit them to su@rausu.co.uk before 12pm on Wednesday 13th March.

I am Running for a Paid Sabbatical Role, are there any other Steps?

All sabbatical candidates will be invited to an informal discussion with the SU Director and SU President once their nominations and manifestos have been accepted.

How and when do I Vote?

Thursday 14th March is election day. Voting will open at 9am and close at 9pm.  Votes received outside of these times will not be counted.

You will receive a link in the morning by email, enabling you to cast your vote.

Each student is allowed one vote per candidate.  It is essential that you include a valid student number and student email address in your voting slip, or your vote will be discounted.  Duplicate votes will also be discounted.

Voting for RON means that you do not wish to elect one of the candidates and that you wish to Re-Open Nominations.

When will I find out the Result?

Votes will be independently verified prior to the results being announced.  The announcement of the newly elected SU will take place on Friday 15 March.

I have a Complaint, who can I Contact?

Any queries or complaints should be addressed to the Deputy Returning Officer, Melanie Kayani, melanie.kayani@rausu.co.uk
