Main Purpose of the Role

The International Students’ Officer is a part-time, voluntary, elected student representative for postgraduate students. This officer is responsible for championing the views of postgraduate and international students of the University and to provide feedback ensuring that these views are reflected through the activities of the Students’ Union and ultimately fed back to the University.

As the Students’ Union International Students’ Officer you will:

  • Be an Ambassador for the Students’ Union, safeguarding its good name and values
  • Be a member of the Students’ Union Executive Committee, attending all meetings, holding the President to account on behalf of international students and representing their views
  • Work alongside the Students’ Union President and Vice Presidents to represent international student views to the University
  • Ensure that international students are supported and valued so they are motivated to succeed
  • Work with the University Student Services team and the Students’ Union Vice President - Leisure and staff to support overseas students and to ensure there is a full social programme to meet their needs and interests. To include organising cultural visits and multi-cultural calendar celebrations
  • Work with the University to assist in the delivery of an International Students’ Welcome programme
  • Facilitate a forum for international students to feed into the work of the Students’ Union (International Students’ Forum)
  • Sit on the Student Voice committee within the Students’ Union, alongside the President and Vice President and course representatives
  • Sit on the University’s Student Wellbeing & Community Committee, representing the views of overseas students
  • Organise and promote non-alcohol related events and activities specifically for international students
  • Ensure a commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion across all Students’ Union activities
  • Provide student representation on other University committees as required
  • Work closely with the Students’ Union staff and the elected officers to support the effective management of the Students’ Union
