Vote Alex Young for RAUSU Vice President Learning

  • Are you happy with how the university is run? Is GEN AI guidance from the university GOOD ENOUGH? Have YOU been falsely accused of plagiarism? I will represent you so your voice can be heard and at the moments you need it most, offering information, advice and guidance that protects YOUR academic experience and YOUR future career.

  • Have your assignment briefs been released on time? I will help you hold the university accountable: assignments released ON TIME grades returned ON TIME, and with relevant feedback EVERY TIME.

  • Are the lecturers listening to your feedback? I commit to making sure your feedback makes it through to the RAU staff able to make a REAL difference - maintaining and raising course standards so that you get the most valuable academic experience.

  • How well does your course content match your degree title? The RAU is changing all the time. I commit that these changes should NEVER affect the standards of teaching or the relevance of the modules you are offered to the course you signed up for!

  • Are you getting value for money? I will take your complaints to the top, attending every RAU committee meeting I can and representing your views every time a decision is made when I am in the room, making sure you ALWAYS have a say in the direction of YOUR university!

  • Do you have a specific learning condition?  Did you know that this may NOT taken into account when marking UNLESS a sheet is attached to the front your assignments? I commit to reforming academic accessibility at the RAU, making sure that you experience FEWER barriers to ACADEMIC SUCCESS. Everyone deserves accessibility to fair marking, WITHOUT needing to complete additional paperwork under the pressure of deadlines.

I will represent you where you need it. I will provide relevant information, advice and guidance. I will be your RAUSU Vice President Learning for 2024 and be proud to serve this incredible community.

Vp learning

If elected as your Vice President of Learning, I am determined to represent and advocate for the academic interests of all students at RAU. As we all know, the academic experience is one of the most crucial aspects of university life. In the past two years, I have served as a Student Course Representative, ensuring that my peers access the best academic resources, support, and outcomes. If given the opportunity to be your VP of Learning, I will continue working tirelessly to ensure all students’ academic needs are met. My vision for the role is to collaborate with you and other academic personnel to achieve the following goals:

1. Formalizing the Course Representative System:

My first priority is reinforcing a formal course representative system, empowering students to participate actively in the decision-making processes that shape our educational journey. I am dedicated to facilitating a transparent and efficient electoral process for selecting representatives and ensuring they are well informed about their roles and responsibilities. By formalizing this system, we provide every student with a powerful platform to voice their concerns, fostering a collaborative environment that enhances our collective learning experience.

2. Advocacy for Postgraduate Students:

I recognize the unique needs and aspirations of our postgraduate students. As your VP of Learning, I pledge to be their primary advocate, addressing academic quality, learning, teaching, and overall welfare concerns. I will actively engage with you and the university staff to ensure that postgraduate students' academic views and needs are effectively communicated and addressed. Through dedicated representation, I aim to create an inclusive academic environment where the distinct perspectives of postgraduate students enrich our university community.

3. Comprehensive Academic Advocacy:

I am committed to comprehensive academic advocacy, ensuring that all students, regardless of their background or course of study, have a voice in decision-making processes. Collaborating closely with you, course representatives, and the student union, I will work to ensure your perspectives are considered in decisions impacting the learning experience. By advocating for you on university committees and boards, I strive to create an inclusive and equitable educational environment where every student feels represented, and their needs are prioritized.

4. Recognition and Celebration of Academic Achievements:

In addition to addressing concerns, I believe in celebrating our students' academic achievements. If elected, I will initiate programs and initiatives that recognize and celebrate your accomplishments. This will foster a positive and supportive academic community, encouraging continuous learning and growth. We can create an environment that values and acknowledges every student's dedication and hard work.

If given the opportunity to represent you as your VP of Learning, I am committed to championing for the academic interests of all RAU students. Let's work together to formalize representation, advocate for postgraduate needs, ensure comprehensive academic advocacy, and celebrate our collective achievements. Thank you for your consideration.

Dear Friends, I am once again asking for you to vote for George Braeckman. This year I am standing for the position of Vice President (learning) on the Student Union. My main aim will be to deliver a University-wide course representatives system by October 2024. However, as always, I am very weary of making you a long list of promises as I don’t know what will happen next year and how the University will act. In any situation that arises I will be guided by the following principles.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

If in doubt ask the students

Dealings with problems as they arise not guessing at what they will be.

Absolute transparency and accountability.
