Job Title: Students’ Union President
Salary: £26,707 per annum plus opportunity to join the workplace pension scheme
Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week, to be worked flexibly. Predominantly Monday – Friday with a requirement to work some evenings and weekends for which time off in lieu will be given
Fixed term contract: Starting on 13 July 2026 until July 2027 (exact date TBC)
Location: Royal Agricultural University campus in Cirencester
Annual Leave: 30 days annual leave per annum plus Bank Holidays and Christmas closure
Purpose of the role
To be the elected, lead student representative of all students at Royal Agricultural University, representing students locally and nationally, shaping their experiences and advocating for positive change
To be the Deputy Chair of the Union’s Board of Trustees and act as an ambassador for the Union
To be a Student Governor of Royal Agricultural University

Are a proactive, responsible individual who is confident communicating with a range of people, from students to the Vice Chancellor and MPs
Are comfortable writing reports and getting stuck into operational tasks as well as working strategically
Are committed to improving all students’ experiences and upholding the values of the Union and Royal Agricultural University
Want to be part of the Union’s transformation journey and create meaningful change
Key responsibilities
To represent the views of the diversity of the student body to the University and relevant local and national stakeholders
To work effectively with University colleagues, particularly the senior team, advocating for students’ academic and non-academic needs and concerns
To lead relevant campaigns locally and nationally
To work with the National Union of Students and other organisations as appropriate
To be an effective member of all relevant Union and University committees, meetings and forums and follow up on actions
To chair relevant student committees, meetings and forums
To lead the development of a positive and inclusive student culture
To undertake and be responsible for appropriate research and insight into students’ experiences, regularly speaking to students, to inform the Union’s work and to present to the University
To regularly write reports and papers to present to University committees and the Union's Board of Trustees
To promote active student participation in Union activities
To contribute to the planning and delivery of Union activities
To work effectively with the Union Director and rest of the Union staff team
To keep up to date with relevant local and national policy and other changes which could have a direct impact on the working of the Students’ Union or on students
To work flexibly and take part in relevant Union and University events such as Welcome Week, Open Days, Offer Holder Days and Graduation
To uphold the Union's values and adhere to all Union policies and procedures as expected of all Union employees and undertake any relevant training required
This is not an exhaustive list of all the key responsibilities - the President is expected to undertake all duties reasonably expected of the role
Trustee responsibilities
To attend and contribute to all Board of Trustees meetings, reading papers beforehand and following up on relevant actions
To work with the Chair to develop the roles and responsibilities of the Deputy Chair including attending relevant training
Working with the rest of the Board and the Union Director, provide strategic oversight ensuring the Union is effectively governed, financially sustainable, is achieving its charitable objectives, has a long term strategy and is maintaining accurate records
Act as an ambassador for the Union by safeguarding its good name and values and promoting its work locally and nationally
Trustees must:
Follow the law, comply with all regulatory requirements and the Union’s Articles of Association
Act responsibly and only in the interests of the charity
Use reasonable care and skill
Make well-informed decisions, taking advice where necessary
