Candidate Profile: Mazie Hazlehurst

BSc (Hons) Rural Land Management

Why have you decided to run for the role of President?

Planning and hosting events is something that I really enjoy, making a community for this university I think is really important. Making sure all are involved in the ways they want to be while still making memories throughout your life at university. Being able to be the student voice is something that would mean a lot to me making sure every part of their university life is done in the correct way with the correct support.

Why would you be a good President?

I would be a strong SU President because I’m committed to raising sporting standards, rebuilding RAU’s social culture, and ensuring every student has the chance to thrive. I want to revive the traditions that make RAU special while creating new, inclusive opportunities for everyone. I have proven experience organising events and engaging students, so I understand what works and how to deliver it. I will also push for clearer academic support, fair marking, and timely feedback so students can succeed without sacrificing wellbeing. My goal is simple: to make RAU a place where every student feels supported, involved and proud.

Why should students vote for you?

I will help raise sporting standards at RAU by supporting teams, increasing participation, and celebrating achievement at all levels. I aim to rebuild RAU’s social culture by reviving iconic events and introducing inclusive experiences for everyone. My focus is to enhance student life so you can enjoy university without compromising wellbeing or academic success. With proven experience organising events, I understand what students want and how to deliver it effectively. I will also improve academic support by pushing for clearer feedback, fair marking, and timely returns, ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn, progress, and succeed confidently.

Anything else you would like to add?

I want to add that I’m committed to being an approachable, reliable and genuinely student‑focused President. I’m someone who listens, follows through, and can work collaboratively with teams, societies and course reps to make real improvements. My goal is to represent every student — not just the loudest voices — and ensure that international students, commuters, postgraduates and quieter students feel equally heard. I’m running because I care about RAU and want to leave it stronger, more connected and more supportive than when I arrived. I’m ready to put in the work and deliver the change students deserve.
