Candidate Profile: Thorne Stopps

BSc (Hons) Agri-Management

Why have you decided to run for the role of President?

Having been notified of being recommended by fellow students, I can see that people at the university value my attitude and engagement with the RAU community; in my short time here, I have seen aspects of university life that we ought to champion, and, equally, areas that need improving. I hope to help in any way I can to bring change where it's needed, whilst upholding the history and legacy of the institution.

Why would you be a good President?

A can-do ethos is at my core, I never shy away from a challenge and, if it's not in my current expertise, I'm always willing to learn and work with those with better knowledge. These are skills that I believe I can transfer into the presidential role with great outcomes for the SU, RAU and student body.

Why should students vote for you?

With a different background to many at the university, I am able to approach things from an angle that others may not, and see all sides to a problem. In my time here, I have tried to support fellow students in any way that I can, and by taking on the SU President's role, this will only enable me to engage on a deeper level, with greater breadth. We all have our gripes, which I am only too happy to lend an ear to, and make practical steps to improve things for all.

Anything else you would like to add?

As friends will agree, I do my best to fight the good fight, ever pushing for the right outcomes from a situation. I don't take anything lying down, and I think this attitude is what an effective SU needs.
